Review of Guru

Madras Talkies Presents

GURU

a film by Mani Ratnam

This is the story of Gurukant Desai [Abhishek Bachchan] - a simple youngster of a village in a way of getting his hand in the
establishment of his own business after he quits his
foriegn job and comes to Mumbai.
The cases was not in his favour there and he had to struggle hard
in despair until he meets Manik Das Gupta [Mithun Da] - a man of
fundamental principles and owner of a newspaper.
In the progress of his visionary he had to face many hindrances
but he defied all of them and finally became the maker of an
independent company and leading to the biggest company of India.

Aishwarya Rai in the role of Guru Bhai's wife does well and
one can now see "acting" from this damsel {soon to be tying the knot}. The chemistry was fabulous. I think its the best chemistry between Ash and Abhi ever. Madhavan has a good role and he does justice to it. Vidya Balan impresses with her small role. Arya Babbar has
a sidelined role but any way he delivers. The music by A.R.Rahman is really good and same goes for the excellent background score. The punch
of the movie is the power packed performance by Abhishek Bachchan and the combination with the background score makes its a sensational experience for the viewers.
To quote the verse -
"Guru bhai guru bhai aa ja che.. Aaya aaya guru bhai !"
Mallika Sherawat's hot belle item was also
very sizzling...
Mayya mayya..... the song was hum able and the
choral " Valida valida..." was also appealing.

Mani Ratnam has worked on the subject well but the sequences could be assumed for sure. The way he presents the story can easily
be tracked by the audience and this shows lack of complexity in story
which adds to the flavor of this movie.Actually this makes it more
clean and humble to watch for the masses.
Mani makes many places skip its charm due to inconclusive
editing. In one scene Abhi looked very old and after few scenes
he becomes young again - thats not at all clicking.
But as a whole a good movie to be watched and I am sure
Abhishek Bachchan
will make his mark in all Awards and will
win even.
You have seen the Shehenshah, u have seen the Baadshah
now its time for the Guru of Bollywood...

The verdict for this movie Rating:-> 6.5 / 10
Abhishek fans read it as 7.5 / 10 due to excellent performance
mind-blowing presence and the best created on - screen chemistry.
For hard core critics 6.0, I know the treatment of the concept
was marvelous but film-making was faintly out of focus.
Any way I will cheer for Guru Bhai ...
